OktoberForest, Healthy Forest = Healthy Water

Water, barley, sugar, hops, and … trees? How much do you know about what goes into creating the flavor of your favorite beer?

Join Greenville Water, The Nature Conservancy, and Bird’s Fly South at Hampton Station on Sunday, October 10, from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. to learn how healthy forests contribute to healthy water and ultimately better beer.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Greenville Water Commissioner Jim Bannister about how our conservation and sustainability efforts within our watersheds help ensure our community receives safe, clean water. Greenville Water team members will be available to share educational information, job, and financial resources, payment options, and our water treatment process. Kids will have the chance to try our hands-on stem-based water distribution game and our Source to Tap and What Makes a Healthy Watershed games.

In 1993, The Nature Conservancy in South Carolina and Greenville Water partnered to protect 30,000 acres of the Greenville watersheds with support from the community. The result is plentiful and great-tasting water. Brewers from across the country have been attracted to the Upstate of South Carolina, including Shawn Johnson, a veteran from the United States Coast Guard that started Birds Fly South Ale Project, a multi-award-winning brewery focused on wild/funky beer styles.
