Comprehensive Corrosion Control

Committed to safeguarding our water supply

We all deserve access to clean, safe drinking water—and Greenville Water is proud to invest in several long-standing programs that deliver on that promise. By proactively monitoring, testing, and improving our resources and infrastructure, these initiatives help families and businesses across our region tap into both high-quality water and peace of mind.

Comprehensive Corrosion Control

A proven process designed to continuously safeguard against metals in the water, our Corrosion Control Program was initiated in the mid-1970s and approved by SC DHEC when the Lead and Copper Rule was mandated by the EPA in 1994. Through the program—which tests over 700 samples annually—a corrosion inhibitor creates a protective layer on the inner surface of the pipe to prevent the leaching of metals from the pipe material into the drinking water, and helps maintain the integrity of our infrastructure by providing a stable passivation layer inside the pipes.

Greenville Water has never exceeded the EPA’s Lead Action Level of 15 ppb, indicating that the GW distribution system has minimal lead components AND the Corrosion Control Program is proven effective.

Proactive Pipeline Replacement Program

Greenville Water budgets between $5-$7 million annually to replace galvanized lines and pipes, and lead pipe components are replaced immediately when discovered during regularly scheduled projects or emergency line repairs.

Quality You Can Count On

Every day and all across the region, Greenville Water strives to provide water with stable physical and chemical characteristics. For many of our industrial and commercial customers, this level of reliability and stability in water composition plays a critical role in the products and services they provide to the community—and we’re proud to play a role in their continued success.
