Greenville Water Names New Chief Executive Officer

GREENVILLE, SC – June 30, 2023 – The Commission of Public Works for the City of Greenville (Greenville Water) is pleased to announce that it has appointed Jeffrey W. Boss, P.E., to serve as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Greenville Water effective July 1, 2023. Jeff has been serving as interim CEO since March 27, 2023, following the retirement of the previous CEO, David Bereskin.

According to Greenville Water Chair, Phillip Kilgore, “After an extensive nationwide search, we are confident that Jeff is the most qualified candidate to lead Greenville Water. He has had significant industry experience during his career and has provided exemplary service to Greenville Water and the greater Greenville community. We are very excited about the future of Greenville Water under Jeff’s leadership.”

Jeff joined Greenville Water as Chief Operations Officer (COO in 2018). Since then, he has introduced innovative utility technology to Greenville Water’s engineering, water production and distribution systems. In particular, Jeff has led efforts to develop a world class enterprise asset management program; to optimize chemical usage in the water treatment operations; and to modernize system infrastructure.

With over 25 years of water industry experience, Jeff has held key leadership roles in comparable organizations, where he consistently delivered exceptional results. His expertise lies in introducing industry leading practices to ensure quality water delivery and stewardship of utility assets and infrastructure, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, and creating and cultivating high-performing teams. Jeff is a graduate of the University of Georgia and is a registered professional engineer in South Carolina.

According to Commissioner Jim Bannister, “Jeff has demonstrated a strong dedication during his tenure to Greenville Water’s sustainability efforts within our watersheds and our treatment facilities to help ensure our community receives safe, clean water.”

Commissioner Deb Sofield added, “Jeff’s dedication to the professional development of the Greenville Water workforce and support of a total salary and benefits package that exceeds the water industry average across the board was apparent throughout his tenure as COO and was a notable strength during his time as interim CEO.”

The Greenville Water Commission is composed of five Commissioners: Mr. Kilgore, Mr. Bannister and Ms. Sofield, who are elected, and two Ex-officio Commissioners, Mayor Knox White and City Council member Wil Brasington. The Commission unanimously and enthusiastically appointed Mr. Boss after consideration of numerous compelling candidates.

“I am honored to continue to serve the Greenville community in my new role as CEO," said Mr. Boss. “My family and I love the Greenville area. I look forward to continuing to work closely with the Greenville Water team and community to build upon our strong foundation and champion the next phase of growth and innovation.”
