Chris Pena, Operations Crew Leader 2 for Greenville Water was recognized by American Water Works Association South Carolina Section as the 2020 Water Distribution Operator of the Year. This award recognizes those in the water industry who have achieved excellence in water distribution operations, including preventative maintenance development and implementation. This attainment represents a significant accomplishment for Chris and Greenville Water.
Chris began his water career 24 years ago with Greenville Water as a Field Operations Tech I. He learned the basics of the installation and maintenance of water meters, water pipe, fire hydrants and water valves. Over the years, Chris has been promoted multiple times, which provided an opportunity for him to formalize and grow the Automated Reader program for our meter reading capabilities. He also leads the construction team, managing and providing mentorship for 15 team members on various construction projects that include main installations and highway projects.
Chris attributes his success to teamwork and the dedicated men in his department. Wayne Benson, Greenville Water’s Field Operations Manager, said, “Chris’ hard work and dedication to improving himself and Greenville Water is a great example to all our employees. We congratulate Chris on this prestigious recognition.”
