Greenville Water Invests in Private Communications Network to Further Strengthen Emergency Response Capabilities
Greenville Water’s number one job is to provide safe, reliable drinking water to the Upstate, and we take that responsibility seriously.
During the recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene, we faced significant challenges, which were further amplified during the response to the Table Rock complex fire. These events caused substantial damage to our watersheds and reinforced the importance of protecting the safety, security and resiliency of these critical resources.
In response, we are building a private communications network to strengthen our security posture and enhance the safety and reliability of our essential services. The network will also provide community emergency response personnel with enhanced communication tools, supporting faster, more coordinated responses during emergencies and natural disasters. It will also expand our ability to conduct drone reconnaissance across our watersheds and other critical areas, providing greater situational awareness in locations that can be difficult or dangerous to access. This capability will support earlier detection of wildfires and other emerging threats, provide critical information to emergency responders and help improve early warning and response efforts to better protect communities throughout the Upstate.
Providing safe, reliable drinking water to the Upstate is a tremendous responsibility, and one we take seriously. This investment reflects our commitment to that responsibility and continues Greenville Water's longstanding tradition of exemplary stewardship to the communities we serve.
