November 13, 2024 – Greenville Water (GW) recently received the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) Sustainable Water Utility Management Award at its annual meeting. This prestigious award recognizes member utilities that have made a commitment to sustainable management through a variety of opportunities. AMWA recognizes that each member water system has its own water resource needs, infrastructure issues, financial position, political issues, energy costs and other challenges.
Accepting the award on behalf of GW was CEO Jeff Boss, who noted that, “It takes the continuous commitment of all of our Team Members to ensure that operations in every department are adhering to the strong principals of a model sustainable water utility. We pride ourselves on our social, economic and environmental promise to our customers – quality water, sustainable future.”
GW has proven a strong commitment to sustainability since earning its first Sustainable Award in 2020. The utility improved energy efficiency with a 10% flow increase while maintaining energy balance, upgraded to fuel-efficient vehicles and implemented recycling and paperless initiatives. GW's conservation easement with The Nature Conservancy protects a 30,000-acre watershed, ensuring pristine water quality. With a AAA bond rating and a solid cash reserve, GW supports the community through payment assistance, donations and employee volunteer programs, actively engaging in educational initiatives.
Earlier this year, GW also received AWWA’s Exemplary Source Water Protection Award as well as the Frost & Sullivan Excellence in Resourcefulness Award.
