Mills Avenue Project
Greenville Water is pleased to announce a project to replace the water mains on Mills Avenue and Hawthorne Lane in the City of Greenville. This project is a part of Greenville Water’s long-term capital reinvestment program focused on replacing aging water infrastructure within our system. Projects like this support Greenville Water’s mission of providing clean, safe, high quality drinking water to our customers in a cost-effective and sustainable manner.
As Greenville Water began planning for the water main replacement project on Mills Avenue, we learned that the City of Greenville was in the process of finalizing a beautification project along Mills Avenue. Members of Greenville Water staff then coordinated with staff members from the City of Greenville to maximize the value of both projects and to minimize disruptions to our customers and the community that can be a part of any construction project along a busily traveled road. Furthermore, Greenville Water coordinated its schedule for the water main replacement on Mills Avenue with the SC Department of Transportation (SCDOT) so that SCDOT can begin their project of repaving Mills Avenue following the replacement of the water main. The coordination of projects between Greenville Water, the City of Greenville and SCDOT is an effort to improve the community infrastructure, minimize the cost of the projects and minimize disruptions to the community.

The construction schedule is designed to minimize disruption to our customers that will be impacted by the project. Greenville Water plans to work with our customers throughout the duration of the project to communicate changes in the construction schedule that may arise from weather or unforeseen underground conditions along the project route. Likewise, Greenville Water will coordinate closely with SCDOT to determine the best schedule for controlling traffic that allows for safe working conditions and considers traffic patterns and needs during all phases of construction.
One benefit you may want to consider before construction begins, is the addition of an irrigation meter for your lawn or business. An irrigation meter provides water for irrigation purposes only and can result in significant savings on your water bill as you are only billed for water usage without charges for wastewater treatment. For more information about requesting an irrigation meter, please see our website at www.greenvillewater.com under the Engineering Section of our website.
Lastly, in preparation for this project, Greenville Water has scheduled a community meeting on April 11, 2017 at 6:00 pm at our new Operations Building located at 517 West Washington Street, Greenville, SC. During this meeting you will have the opportunity to learn about the upcoming projects along Mills Avenue, learn more information about Greenville Water’s Irrigation Meter Program, and meet the Project Manager, Communications Manager and Contractor for the Mills Avenue and Hawthorne Lane Water Main Replacement Project. We hope that you will join us on April 11th and if you have any questions about this meeting, please call me at 864-241-6027.
