Greenville Water Invites the Community to Participate in Drinking Water Week

Greenville Water and water communities all across North America will celebrate Drinking Water Week, May 5-11, by recognizing the vital role drinking water plays in our daily lives. The focus will be placed on ways in which water consumers can take personal responsibility in caring for their tap water by using it wisely and protecting it at its source.

Throughout the week on social media, Greenville Water will be emphasizing how simple actions by the community can help to protect and conserve our water resources. Children are also encouraged to learn more about the water cycle by participating in a coloring contest.

Unlike most water utilities nationwide, Greenville Water receives most of its water from two large mountain watersheds. These 26,000 acres of pristine watersheds are well-protected with no residential, commercial, agricultural or industrial influences.  Greenville Water’s third water source is

Lake Keowee and it is in this watershed that all those who enjoy this beautiful lake in Pickens County can help protect the source by not applying

fertilizers in areas adjacent to the lake and by keeping all litter out of the lake.

“Drinking Water Week allows us the special opportunity to emphasize how we can protect and preserve Earth’s most valuable natural resource – our drinking water – to safeguard many different ecosystems and species while ensuring that adequate, high-quality water is available for future generations,” said David Bereskin, Greenville Water Chief Executive Officer. “We are all stewards of our water and as we continue learning about and building on our appreciation of our drinking water sources, it becomes easier to understand the importance of protecting those sources.”
