Greenville Water Acknowledged for Financial Excellence for Second Year in a Row

Greenville SC- October 15, 2015- The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded Greenville Water the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2014. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. This attainment represents a significant accomplishment.

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR. The panel offered only three suggestions for improvement which makes this CAFR as perfect as possible. This is truly a reflection of the quality work performed by the Greenville Water finance staff.

The GFOA also recognized Greenville Water with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. The award represents a significant achievement by the entity. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.
Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL, and Washington, DC.
