Conservation Education

This year the Greenville Water System unveiled our new conservation campaign titled "fight aquamania."

People that suffer from aquamania are crazy about wasting water. They take 20-minute showers or brush their teeth with the faucet running or water their lawns at all hours of the day. To learn more about aquamania click here.

According to lots of complicated tests with math equations, most aquamaniacs don't realize how much water they waste. But when they find out, they can often cure themselves, with the aid of Water-Saving Tips. Please use this website to find out if you, or anyone you know, is an aquamaniac. And please follow the water-saving tips, so there's more water for everyone.

It's easy to be an aquamaniac. But it's also easy to stop being one.

Conservation Tips

Don't water the lawn on windy days; sidewalks and driveways don't grow well. Water before 8 am, otherwise you can lose up to 30% of your water due to evaporation.

Turn off water while you shampoo and condition your hair and you can save more than 50 gallons a week

Avoid using the toilet for a wastebasket. Every flush you eliminate can save between 2 and 7 gallons of water

Run your washing machine dishwasher only when full to save 1,000 gallons a month

Turn off water while you brush your teeth and save up to four gallons per minute. That's 200 gallons each week for a family of four

Keep your tap water cold in the refrigerator rather than running water until it's cold enough for drinking.

When washing your car, use a bucket with soapy water. Use a nozzle on your hose for rinsing. This will control the flow of water.

Place a cover on your pool or spa. Left uncovered, you can lose up to 1,000 gallons of water per month.

Leaking faucets and connecting hoses can waste up to 170 gallons per day.

Leaking toilets waste gallons of water per day. Test your toilet for leaks. Add several drops of food coloring to the toilet tank, if the coloring appears in the toilet without flushing, you have a leak.

Use a broom to clean your driveway and sidewalks instead of water.

Water your lawn before 8:00am.
